Congrats to Northern Nevada Home Watch of Minden, NV, on their accreditation by the NHWA!
Owner Bob Haelsig started his business out of his own frustration when trying to find a Home Watch company for his own needs. There were pet sitters and house sitters, but none of them had any real experience or expertise in home care. Bob had had a past experience when an irrigation valve failed in the open position and went unnoticed for days by the house sitter. It was an experience that stuck with him. Subsequent vacations or time away from his house would often lead to the dreaded “what ifs.” What if that was a water heater that had failed; what if that was a supply line to a dishwasher or washing machine; what if the furnace failed, etc.
The thought of Bob leaving his home unoccupied for an extended period or asking friends or neighbors to look after it has always been a great source of personal anxiety. It was while he was away on vacation one year, during one of those moments of anxiety, that Bob had the “A-ha!” moment and began to formulate a business plan for a comprehensive Home Watch service. His vision was to create a service that would allow a homeowner to leave home and enjoy their time away with peace of mind, knowing that their home was being properly looked after. Upon returning home, Bob began to do some research and soon realized that there was a local need and opportunity for this type of service. Thus, the decision was made to create Northern Nevada Home Watch, a professional, full-service Home Watch service.
Bob’s professional journey spans four decades, commencing with his education at Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood, Washington. From there, he dove headfirst into industrial maintenance, building and maintaining various types of machinery used in the local lumber and paper industries. Bob’s career path changed when he turned his focus toward plastic injection mold tooling design and construction. Over time, his expertise expanded to encompass manufacturing operations and commercial facilities management.
Bob invested in fixer-upper homes, turning them into single-family rental properties. Many of these properties were repossessions or foreclosures that had been left unoccupied, vacant, and neglected. He saw first-hand how quickly a vacant property can decline and lose value. It also taught him about the unique challenges of maintaining second homes and unoccupied properties.
In his spare time, Bob enjoys fishing, hiking, dual sport motorcycle trips, working in his garden, tinkering with amateur radio equipment, and spending time with friends and family.
A little about the National Home Watch Association: The NHWA was formed in 2009 in order to establish and maintain the highest industry standards for Home Watch and absentee homeowner services throughout the United States and Canada (www.nationalhomewatchassociation.org).
