Terri Bristlin-Johnston
SureLook Home Watch of Becker, Minnesota, has earned Accredited Member status from the NHWA.
Owner Terri Bristlin-Johnston has worked in the residential construction industry for most of her adult life. She found herself as the office manager and bookkeeper at a landscaping company and then in a similar position with an electrical contractor. Terri and her husband, Jeff Johnston, started a construction and landscape business at the same time they started a family, which allowed Terri to stay home with their children and work part-time from their home office. Jeff is a licensed residential building contractor; they built their current home themselves. Needless to say, Terri is very comfortable with construction terms, home maintenance, and working with subcontractors. As a bookkeeper, she is very detail-oriented and an excellent problem solver—skills that transfer nicely to Home Watch.
Terri’s desire to start her Home Watch company stems from a few personal experiences. She decided to focus her business on conducting cabin watches due to a discovery at their own cabin last spring. Terri and Jeff park their RV at their seasonal cabin and leave it parked there year-round. Imagine her surprise when in early March, they decided to drive by the cabin, only to discover their RV had been stolen! As she waited for the police to arrive, Terri looked up and down their road at the three-foot-high snow drifts spanning all the cabins and realized nobody was watching any of their cabins/second homes. That is, nobody but a thief! That’s when Terri had her “Aha!” moment and decided to offer professional Home Watch services to cabin owners. The theft of her RV might have been prevented and would have been reported within a week, instead of months after the crime occurred, had they hired a Home Watch service.
As they were winterizing their cabin one fall, Terri noticed a window on the neighbor’s cabin was left open. Terri knew they had returned to Florida for the season but was able to contact them and get access to the cabin to shut the window. Disaster averted!
Terri and Jeff have been married for 25 years. They have two adult children, a wonderful son-in-law, and are expecting their first grandchild. In her spare time, Terri loves to read, practice yoga, and go to trivia nights with her friends. Some of her favorite times are spent entertaining family and friends at their cabin and enjoying sunset pontoon rides.
