Gulf Coast Keyholders of Gulf Shores, AL, earns fifth-year accreditation from the NHWA!

Jack Luber
Executive Director

Greetings!

Gulf Coast Keyholders of Gulf Shores, Alabama, has earned fifth-year accreditation from the NHWA.

Founder and owner Martha Kilborn Howard is a 30-year permanent resident of Gulf Shores and lifelong South Alabamian, who grew up in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. She is also a licensed Realtor. Martha retired from teaching in 2008, after nearly 30 years as a nationally recognized educator in Alabama’s public-school system.

Martha’s husband and partner, Wayne, is known as “Coach” in the South Baldwin community. He spent 25 years teaching many of the locals and their children. Wayne has an extensive background in construction and maintenance.

Wayne and Martha have been watching homes, answering security alarms, meeting service technicians, arranging for services, and reporting property conditions to the owners for more than 20 years. During this time, they renovated several older Gulf Shores homes and are very familiar with conditions and hazards that affect coastal residents and homeowners. Martha and Wayne recognize that other second-home owners need a local advocate watching their properties while they are away.

Co-owner and son Walter C. Brewer (we call him Walt) has inherited Martha’s values. He believes in personal involvement, higher standards, individual attention, expanded flexible work hours, and the ability to respond quickly, personally and efficiently to clients’ needs.

A familiar and trusted face around the island, Walt became interested in the Home Watch business after his wife’s parents’ summer home had a roof leak that went unnoticed while they were away. Had they used the services Walt now offers, they might not have lost an entire season to the headache of remediation and renovation after water damage and mold ruined their home.

Walt has a background in both the boating industry and maintenance. Growing up on the water in Gulf Shores, he spent much of his life on boats and worked in the industry since his teenage years. He was employed in South Florida as the captain of a privately owned 132’ Motor Yacht and was responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of both the yacht and the owners’ private second home.

Together, Martha, Wayne and Walt serve the coastal areas of Alabama by providing Home Watch, emergency responder support, pre- and post-storm assessment, service access and supervision, provisioning, and keyholding services to absentee owners and others who don’t want to leave their homes alone.
