Jack Luber
Executive Director

Prairie Home Watch of Burnsville, Minnesota, has earned Accredited Member status from the NHWA for the fifth year.

Owner Laura Hartfiel founded Prairie Home Watch after retiring as a police officer in the Twin Cities Metro area. She is well aware of the pitfalls of leaving residences unattended and without monitoring by a reliable professional. While working as an officer, Laura handled incidents of burglaries, vandalism, thefts, broken water pipes, failed heating systems, leaking water heaters, and storm damage in unattended properties; she has seen first-hand the staggering costs these problems can create for absent homeowners, especially if not caught in a timely manner. With her background as an officer, Laura is well trained, level-headed, and capable of handling any issues that arise.

Laura holds a Master’s degree in Public Safety with a Specialization in Criminal Justice and Homeland Security, a Bachelor’s degree in Management, and an Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement. She has over 17 years of experience teaching prospective law enforcement officers at the Law Enforcement Center and at two colleges as an adjunct instructor and the Program Chair for the Criminal Justice Department. While serving as a police officer, Laura handled emergency situations, investigated a wide variety of crimes, and served in a multitude of capacities, including the Domestic Abuse Response Team, Chaplain Liaison Officer, Field Training Officer, Community Service Officer Training Officer, and Physical Evidence Officer (crime scene processing). She has received countless letters of appreciation, Certificates of Distinguished Service, and a Certificate of Meritorious Service.

In her spare time, Laura enjoys spending time with her family and friends, photography, fabricating jewelry, snorkeling, and water gardening. She supports the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, area animal shelters, elderly care shelters, and care for the homeless.
