Veteran Homewatch, Concierge, and Handyman Service of Marco Island, FL, earns accreditation from the NHWA!

Jack Luber
Executive Director

Greetings!

Veteran Homewatch, Concierge, and Handyman Service of Marco Island, Florida, has earned Accredited Member status from the NHWA.

In September of 2017, owner James Lavery was living in Alexandria, Virginia. He also owned a condominium on Marco Island, but he only got to visit a few times a year. When Hurricane Irma made landfall there, it was a Category 3 with 115-mph winds. Much of the Island was without power, water, and cell towers. Jim’s condo’s front door blew off the hinges, and for approximately 45 minutes, projectiles were flying through the condo. The glass doors to the lanai were shattered; floors, ceilings, walls and furniture were damaged. The valuable lesson Jim took with him as an absentee owner was the necessity of having plan in place for hurricane preparedness with a trustworthy, honest, knowledgeable, and reliable Home Watch company in the area. He also learned the importance of making an investment in storm-protection systems before hurricane season. He contracted for the repair and improvements to the condo; however, it took a long time since all the local contractors were busy for months.

Jim has established a rapport with reputable and contractors, including servicemen and technicians from all industry types. He also does a lot of minor repairs himself.

Jim was born and raised in southwestern Pennsylvania. He graduated from California University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Rural Planning and Management. He continued graduate degree studies in Urban Geography. Jim is a four-year Veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served at the Los Angles Air Force Station Space and Missile Organization; he also served in a Reconnaissance Squadron at Alconbury Air Force Base in England.

Jim has an impressive background as a director of planning and zoning, code enforcement and building inspection. He worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Pennsylvania Department of Community Affairs. In 2019, Jim became a permanent resident of Marco Island.

Jim has earned the designation of NHWA Certified Home Watch Professional, making him one of the top professionals in the Home Watch industry. The CHWP designation shows Jim’s commitment to providing excellent service to his clients.
