We’ve known it all along!

Jack Luber

We have always known what a great business Home Watch is. But thank you, Forbes Advisor, for telling everyone else!

I started my Home Watch business way back in 2005. And, based on the rapid growth of Home Watch in the next few years, in 2009 I made the decision to start the National Home Watch Association. When I wrote the words, “Home Watch is known by many names: Property Watch, Absentee Homeowner Services, Home Concierge, House Check, etc.,” I was trying to bring together into one unified name the many names and descriptions companies were using. It worked for the most part; most companies are now using “Home Watch” as part of their names. While there are still a variety of names and descriptors, they all describe Home Watch, and many even use the official definition of it, which is, “a visual inspection of a home or property, looking for obvious issues.”

Because of the many different names, promoting true cohesion, as well as the much overdue recognition of Home Watch throughout North America, the NHWA has spent years promoting our ever-growing service industry. A few years back, Kiplinger Magazine did a great interview with me, an NHWA member, and a client of that member, explaining how Home Watch works for snowbirds (https://www.kiplinger.com/article/retirement/t029-c000-s004-prep-your-house-for-snowbird-season.html).

In March of 2023, the NHWA launched the very first National Home Watch Month, when we blitzed the news media with press releases, and our members sent out business briefs to their local media, educating them about Home Watch. So, imagine our surprise and joy when Forbes Magazine’s own Forbes Advisor named Property Watch Service (there it is again) as a Top Home Business to Start in 2023 (https://www.forbes.com/advisor/business/home-business-ideas/).

As I said, we already knew it.

If you have questions or are looking for sanctioned training in Home Watch, please let us know. Call our office at (843) 357-6660, and we will help.

As always, I wish you

Much success,

Jack Luber
Executive Director
