Home Watch Insurance

The cornerstone of “legitimate” Home Watch is business insurance – proper and effective business insurance. Throughout the history of the National Home Watch Association, the Home Watch industry’s lack of industry data and an individual classification code has made it almost impossible to provide our homeowner clients with robust and industry specific insurance coverage needed to protect their unoccupied homes. In 2013, the NHWA made a huge breakthrough by getting one insurance broker to work with them and offer them an industry specific policy with not only general liability, but professional liability, too. This has been available to members of the NHWA only, due to their due diligence and vetting of all members. The NHWA’s commitment to excellence for their entire membership made the decision to insure for our young industry worth taking. Over the years the industry has grown, creating new challenges along the way.

One of the most common reasons Home Watch companies contact us is because they are unable to secure proper insurance for their new business. We have seen some classifications that were used to cover Home Watch – classifications that were obviously suspect. Unfortunately, the only way to know if the policy purchased will cover the claim is to submit one.

That said, we are pleased to announce the NHWA Insurance Program remains available and in-force, protecting companies, both new and old, which in turn protects the billions of dollars in real estate our members oversee and monitor.
