Jim and Shanda Maddox
Eastern NC Home Watch of Arapahoe, North Carolina, has earned accreditation from the NHWA for the second year.
Owners Jim and Shanda Maddox come from diverse professional backgrounds. Jim spent over 25 years in ministry at a large church, while Shanda built a successful career in banking as a Regional Director. They sought a career they could share and transitioned to a senior living company. Their collaboration proved mutually beneficial, earning them the title of Managers of the Year in 2015.
In 2021, the Maddoxes purchased land on the beautiful Pamlico River in Arapahoe, a place Shanda describes as her happiest. Stunning sunrises and sunsets mark their days. Many of their neighbors, however, only reside there part-time, prompting them to frequently ask Jim and Shanda to "keep a check on things." This involved setting mouse traps, sending out important mail, checking for frozen pipes, and watering flowers.
They soon learned that more than 50% of the homes in their county were not primary residences, so the need for these services was great. As they explored options, they discovered Home Watch, a field that aligned perfectly with their previous professional and personal experiences. Realizing this was their future path, Shanda and Jim knew it was crucial to align with the NHWA.
Shanda is a graduate of the NHWA’s Home Watch Boot Camp and has earned the designation of Certified Home Watch Professional (CHWP), placing her among the industry’s elite Home Watch providers exemplifies her commitment to excellence.
Jim and Shanda have been married since November 2011. This wasn’t their first marriage, and they brought five children along with them. Remarkably, their two sons are the same age, and Jim’s twin daughters are the same age as Shanda’s daughter. They are all now responsible adults, giving Jim and Shanda 11 amazing grandchildren.
