The Island Company of Kiawah Island, South Carolina, has earned third-year accreditation for its Home Watch services from the NHWA. 

Born in Americus, Georgia, owner Will Shiver grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, with his great-grandfather having founded Shiver Lumber Company in 1900. Working in the family business from a young age, Will gained invaluable experience in customer service and business operations, stocking shelves and loading trucks. After high school, he pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration in Real Estate at the University of Georgia, graduating in 2007.

While still a student at UGA, Will was inspired by a friend’s father who owned a second home on the South Carolina coast. The idea was to create a company that would serve as the single point of contact for all service needs of absentee homeowners. Captivated by this concept, Will moved to Charleston, South Carolina, and launched what is now The Island Company in early 2008. He began managing homes for absentee homeowners in DeBordieu Colony, Isle of Palms, Sullivans Island, and Charleston.

Two years into his business, Will had the opportunity to acquire the accounts of a more established company on Kiawah Island. Leveraging the previous owner’s contacts and relationships, he expanded his business, focusing on the Kiawah market. In 2018, Will became a licensed home builder, allowing his company to manage all residential projects without outsourcing to a general contractor. By 2020, Will had hired his first in-house maintenance technician, establishing a robust maintenance and handyman division. In 2024, they opened their second location, in Palmetto Bluff, SC. Starting in 2025, The Island Company now offers in-house HVAC and plumbing services. Today, The Island Company employs a dedicated team of 19, including bookkeepers, Home Watch inspectors, project managers, and maintenance technicians.

Will has been happily married to his wife, Jayne, for nine years. They have two beautiful daughters and reside in an historic home they renovated in downtown Charleston. In his spare time, Will enjoys playing golf, boating, spending time with his family, and cheering on his Georgia Bulldogs.
