Dan Bates

Jim Bates

Breakwater Home Watch of Rockport, Massachusetts, has earned accreditation from the NHWA.

Dan Bates graduated from the Bertolon School of Business at Salem State University in Massachusetts in 2013. He has worked in many fields, including insurance and property maintenance. Dan’s family comes from a real estate ownership and operation background, which he pursued. After leaving a corporate insurance job, Dan’s side gig of assisting homeowners and business owners with maintaining their properties started to pick up. Due to this line of work, he has been able to network with many property owners who needed various services. Many have inquired about making routine visits to their unoccupied properties while they were away, for a short or extended period. Dan has been doing this type of work for many years for the snowbirds in his life. This led him to research starting a dedicated business for Home Watch. After discovering the National Home Watch Association, Dan decided to start Breakwater Home Watch and become accredited and certified by the NHWA. He has a reputation for being trustworthy, honest, and dependable. Because of this, Dan has grown his network of clients primarily by word of mouth.

After trade school, Jim Bates, Dan’s father, began his career as a mechanic in Boston, eventually opening his own business. After 10 years, he sold his company to his employees and accepted a position at an insurance carrier where he became an auto damage appraiser. Jim moved into a management position during his years with three different carriers. He was also involved in several catastrophe team responses. He traveled to areas devastated by storms locally after Hurricane Bob and The Perfect Storm, and nationally after Hurricane Andrew in Florida and Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey. Jim worked for these three carriers for nearly 40 years, retiring this year and looking forward to working with Dan.

\Dan and Jim graduated from the NHWA’s Home Watch Boot Camp and earned the designation of Certified Home Watch Professional (CHWP), placing them among the Home Watch industry’s elite providers. The CHWP designation and Boot Camp training exemplify their commitment to Home Watch excellence.
