Douglas Baer
Owl Home Watch of Port St. Lucie, Florida, has earned accreditation from the NHWA.
Owner Douglas Baer worked for 30 years as an operations manager in the outdoor advertising business. He finished his career overseeing operations for an advertising company in Providence, Rhode Island, and Boston, Massachusetts. Before his operations career, Douglas was co-owner of a landscape design/construction company in Providence.
Douglas graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor of science degree in Resource Development and a minor in Business. During his operations career, he implemented the safety program for employees and trained on topics such as hazmat, electrical safety, etc. Douglas was responsible for office/building, fleet, tool, and safety inspections. He held OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications. Other responsibilities were subcontracting, asset and building maintenance, and purchasing.
After buying a home in Florida and worrying about it being vacant before moving in four months later, a co-worker mentioned Home Watch to Douglas, even suggesting it as a good business to own. It gave Douglas peace of mind. After his first Home Watch visit, before his next one, a pipe burst in the concrete in the garage. Until his Home Watch provider went for the next visit, water was coming out of his garage door for over a week! The Home Watch provider suggested a plumber, Douglas hired him, and he was there the next day. That convinced Douglas to start his own Home Watch business. He feels it’s perfect for him. And, by the way, his water bill was $102 more than the prior month.
Douglas and his wife, Cindy, have been married for 31 years. They have three adult children, Lindsey, Dylan, and Charlie. One lives in Florida, while the other two are in Rhode Island. The beach is Douglas’s happy place to relax. He enjoys skiing, fishing, boating, skeet shooting, and home improvements.
